What Does a Support Coordinator Actually Do?

Home / What Does a Support Coordinator Actually Do?

Support coordination helps participants understand and use their NDIS plan effectively. It's one of the most commonly funded capacity-building supports, but many people aren't sure exactly what it covers.

A support coordinator helps you connect with service providers that match your needs and goals, whether that's therapy services, support workers, or community programs. They can help you compare options rather than simply picking the first provider available.

They also help you understand your plan in plain language — what each funding category covers, how much you have left to spend, and when your plan is due for review.

Support coordination comes in different levels: Support Connection (building your ability to connect with supports yourself), Coordination of Supports (more hands-on help managing a complex mix of supports), and Specialist Support Coordination (for people with more complex situations involving multiple service systems).

A good support coordinator works towards making themselves less necessary over time, by building your confidence and skills to manage more of your plan independently.
