How NDIS Group and Centre-Based Activities Work
26 July 2026 · By GTI Team
NDIS group and centre-based activities are structured sessions where participants take part alongside peers in a supported, centre-based setting, aimed at building both practical skills and social connection.
What a session usually looks like
Activities are planned around the interests and goals of the group, and might include anything from cooking and craft sessions to fitness, games, or skill-building workshops, always with support staff on hand.
Because sessions run in a group setting, funding is typically shared across participants rather than allocated one-to-one, which can make this a more cost-effective way to access regular, structured support.
Why families choose group-based support
Beyond the activity itself, the main value participants and families report is the social side — building friendships with peers in a similar stage of life, and a reliable, regular routine to look forward to.
Group activities are often used alongside individual supports rather than instead of them, giving participants a mix of one-to-one and peer-based support across their week.
Guidance to Independence runs group and centre-based activities for participants across Narellan and South West Sydney. Get in touch to find a session that fits.
