Our commitment

Guidance to Independence is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, including people living with disability, older people, and people using assistive technology. Accessibility is central to who we support, so it's built into how we build this Site — not treated as an afterthought.

Accessibility features on this Site

Every page includes an accessibility menu (look for the “Accessibility” button near the top of the page) with the following controls:

  • Text size— increase or decrease text size across the whole Site to a level that's comfortable for you.
  • Dark mode— switch to a darker colour theme, which can reduce eye strain in low light or for light sensitivity.
  • Underline links— make links stand out from surrounding text, which helps if you have difficulty distinguishing colour alone.
  • Reduce motion— pause the animated hero video and disable non-essential animations and transitions, for people sensitive to motion.

These preferences are remembered on your device and apply automatically the next time you visit. You can reset them at any time from the same menu.

Other accessibility measures

  • A “skip to content” link is available at the top of every page for keyboard and screen reader users.
  • The Site respects your device's reduced-motion setting automatically, in addition to the manual toggle above.
  • Visible focus outlines are provided throughout the Site for keyboard navigation.
  • Forms use properly associated labels, and form submission results are announced to screen readers.
  • The Site is designed to work across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

Known limitations

We are continuing to improve accessibility across the Site. If you come across content or a feature that is difficult to access, please let us know using the details below so we can address it.
